Properties：
Monoclinic crystals, white powder, granular crystals or prills.Easily soluble in water forming a slightly alkaline solution. Insoluble in alcohol and ether. It is strongly hygroscopic and it easily cakes and turns into Potassium bicarbonate through absorbing carbon dioxide when exposed to the air for a long time.
Applications：
Used as raw materials in manufacturing electro tube, TV kinescopes and computer displays. Applied in optical glass improving clarity, strength and refractive index, also applied in electrode avoiding electric arc breaking-off during welding, also used in agriculture.
Synthesis method ：
Ion-exchange method, the purified potassium chloride solution (250g/l) is adsorbed on the cation resin (732) column and washed with distilled water until the chlorine-free ions flow out. The potassium is then eluted with 200 ammonium bicarbonate until the potassium ion in the effluent is less than 2 grams per liter. The eluent is heated to 150 °C, the solution is then concentrated to a relative density of about 1.593, and then carbonized with CO2 gas, and the potassium hydrogencarbonate crystallizes. After centrifugation, the potassium hydrogencarbonate is decomposed into potassium carbonate by hot air at about 400 °C.
