Vietnam's Fruit And Vegetable Exports At US$1.4 Billion in The First Five Months Of 2022

Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports in the first five months of 2022 stood at US$1.4 billion, down 17 per cent year-on-year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The reason for this is a sharp decline in the share of Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that recently, Vietnam's exports of various products to China have shown a downward trend, but the export value of bananas has increased significantly. in the first five months of 2022, China's banana imports reached 742,000 tonnes, an increase of 10 per cent. Among them, Vietnam's bananas accounted for 43 per cent of the market share, surpassing the Philippines' 28 per cent market share.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the future, Vietnam's exports of fruits and vegetables and even agricultural products to China will continue to encounter difficulties. Therefore, exporters should take the initiative to expand into new markets and increase exports to the European Union and markets such as Japan and the United States; at the same time, prepare a good amount of fruit and vegetables so that orders can be met in time when the Chinese market increases its import efforts.
