At present, Vietnamese coffee has been exported to 80 countries and regions in the world, accounting for 14.2% of the global coffee bean export market share.
Coffee is one of the six commodities that Vietnam exports with an average annual value of over US$3 billion. Coffee, along with wood and wood products, aquatic products, cashew nuts, rice, vegetables, fruits and rubber, are the top commodities in Vietnam's total agricultural exports. In 2021, despite the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Vietnam's total coffee exports will reach 3 billion US dollars, contributing to Vietnam's export growth.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, executive vice president of Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, pointed out that Vietnam’s coffee export volume ranks second in the world coffee export volume, accounting for 8.3% of the global market share, second only to Brazil. The main export markets for Vietnamese coffee are Europe, the United States, Russia, Japan and the United Kingdom. Among them, Europe is the largest market for Vietnam’s coffee exports, accounting for 40% and 38% of Vietnam’s total coffee exports. In addition, China is also a potential big market for Vietnamese coffee exports. Currently, Vietnamese coffee accounts for 30% of China's total coffee imports.
It is worth mentioning that the various free trade agreements that Vietnam has participated in will create more opportunities for Vietnamese coffee to enter the international market, and the export market of Vietnamese coffee will expand.
The Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association has set a goal of doubling the average annual export value of coffee to US$5-6 billion in the next ten years, which will increase the export volume of processed coffee with high added value.
