Russian Far Eastern State Agricultural University to start cooperation with Chinese companies in soybean production

MOSCOW, Oct. 20 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Far Eastern State Agricultural University and China's Harbin Leshi Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. signed an agreement on Oct. 19 on the establishment of a Russian-Chinese cooperation centre for science, technology and innovation in the field of soybean production, Russian Far Eastern media reported.

The main business of Harbin Leshi Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. is the breeding and protection of soybeans and other agricultural crops.

Rector of the Russian Far Eastern State Agricultural University Gikhonchuk said that representatives of the university and Harbin Leshi Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd. had previously worked together to produce a new variety of soybean known as the "debut".

Gikhonchuk noted that there are currently only eight universities in Russia that offer higher education in breeding, so the Far Eastern State Agricultural University plans to send its master's and doctoral students to China, where the breeding sector is developing rapidly, for internships and training.
