Peruvian Avocado Exports Reach End Of Season With Over 610,000 Tonnes

Ninety-nine per cent of Peru's avocado exports were concentrated in the January-September period and exports are now nearing completion. Total exports reached 613,947 tonnes, an increase of 11% year-on-year, but the value of exports was only US$976 million, a decrease of 10%. The average export price of Peruvian avocados was only US$1.59/kg, close to the lowest point in the last four years.

Due to the global logistics crisis, many countries are choosing to prioritise importing products from closer regions. In the European market, for example, large importers from countries such as the Netherlands and Spain have switched to importing from countries such as Israel, Slovenia and Morocco, which has significantly increased the competitive pressure on Peruvian avocados.

The current price of Peruvian avocado exports to the European market is around US$1.44/kg, 26% less than last year. Falling prices have also led many Peruvian exporters to move their shipments to better priced markets, such as North America and Asia.
