With high polarity, high boiling point, good thermal stability, non-proton, and water miscible characteristics, can dissolve in ethanol, propanol, benzene and chloroform, most organic substances, known as the "universal solvent"

Applications

Butylated melamine resin is made by blending butanol into the melamine-formaldehyde reaction mixture and is used as a fluid in paints and varnishes. COPOLYMERS containing melamine, formaldehyde and sodium bisulfite can produce foam with sound absorption and flame retardancy. Foams have a distinct hard microbubble structure, which gives them abrasive qualities and has been used in the development of cleaning products.
