Korea's Rice Production To Decrease in 2022

Statistics Korea said the country's rice production is expected to decrease to 3.8 million tons in 2022 from 3.88 million tons in the previous year due to a decrease in rice sown area and insufficient rainfall. The rice sown area will shrink to 727,000 hectares, down 0.7% from 732,000 hectares the previous year. The Statistics Bureau said the area sown with rice fell slightly this year due to low rice prices and the government's encouragement of farmers to plant other crops. In addition, the amount of rainfall also decreased during June and July.
