India's Summer-sown Rice Production Expected To Fall 6% in 2022/23

India's summer-sown rice production in 2022/23 is expected to fall 6 percent because of uneven monsoon rains in the eastern part of the country, affecting rice cultivation and yields, according to the latest Indian government forecast. Indian farmers are likely to harvest 104.99 million tons of rice in the farming year that begins in July 2022, down from 111.76 million tons a year ago, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare said in a statement. The government earlier set a target of 112 million tons for this year's summer-sown rice production. Summer-sown rice production accounts for more than 85 percent of the annual output. Last year's summer-sown rice production jumped to a record 130.29 million tons.
