Guatemala Coffee Exports Increase By More Than 30% Annually

The National Coffee Association of Guatemala (Anacafé) recently released the 2020-2021 coffee year export data, and both export volume and export value increased year-on-year.

Guatemala Lahora News Network reported on December 19 that according to Anacafé’s report, from 2020 to 2021 (October of the previous year to September of the following year), Guatemala exported a total of 4.76 million quintals (100 pounds per quintal) of coffee, a year-on-year increase of 14.4% ; Export value reached 886 million US dollars, an increase of 34.5% over the previous coffee year.

The report mentioned that in the 2020-2021 coffee year, 50.1% of the coffee produced in Guatemala will be exported. The United States is one of the main destinations, and coffee exports to the United States accounted for 39.1% of total exports; the Asian market's interest in Guatemala coffee is still rising, accounting for 23.7% of total exports; the European market accounts for 23.5%, of which 3 The import volume of these countries is particularly prominent: Belgium 8.8%, Germany 5.0%, and Italy 3.6%.

In addition, the report highlights that since most of the coffee years from 2019 to 2020 will be spent in the new crown epidemic, its coffee exports are 4.16 million quintals, which is a decrease of 10.1% from the previous coffee year; the export value is 656 million U.S. dollars, which is also less than The previous coffee year. The increase in the number of this coffee year shows the positive trend of the Guatemalan coffee industry and is a manifestation of the recovery of the coffee industry after the epidemic.

The coffee industry is an important part of Guatemala’s economy.
