The latest U.S. Department of Agriculture’s rice market outlook report in August showed that the forecast for global rice ending stocks in 2022/23 was lowered by 4.2 million tons from the previous month to 178.5 million tons, a decrease of more than 3 percentage points from the previous year. India accounts for most of the reduction in global rice ending stocks this month, as opening stocks and rice production are lowered. Indian rice ending stocks are forecast at 35.5 million tons, down 9 percent from last month's forecast and down 3 percent from the previous year.
