Global Rice Ending Stocks in 2022/23 To Be About 3% Lower Than The Previous Year

The latest data released by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) shows that the forecast for global rice consumption in 2022/23 is lowered by 800,000 tons to 522.2 million tons, but it will remain stable from the previous year and is still a record high, as food demand remains strong. It is likely to offset other declines in use, especially feed demand.

Global rice ending stocks for 2022/23 are forecast at 190.9 million tonnes, down 2.9% or 5.8 million tonnes from the previous year’s record level and 0.8 million tonnes below the July forecast. Global rice trade is expected to reach 54.4 million tonnes in 2022 (January to December) and 55 million tonnes in 2023. India will remain the world's top rice exporter, with annual exports exceeding 20 million tonnes.
