Data shows that German imports from China will amount to around 116.3 billion euros in 2020, an increase of 5.6% compared to 2019, and exports to China around 95.9 billion euros. The bilateral trade volume between the Netherlands and Germany, the USA and Germany took second and third place with 172.8 billion euros and 171.6 billion euros, which corresponds to a decrease of 8.7% and 9.7% compared to the previous year .

In the ranking of Germany's most important import sources in the last few decades, China took 35th place in 1980 and rose to 14th place in 1990. Since 2015, China has been the country with the most imported products from Germany.

In an interview with the reporter from the Xinhua news agency, Christina Otte, a China expert at the Federal Agency for Foreign Trade and Investment, said that China will be Germany's second largest export destination in 2020 and that the gap to Germany's largest export destination, the USA, has continued to zoom out. China's economic recovery is faster than expected, which is "good news" for the German economy.
