Calcium nitrate: A nutrient for agriculture

Calcium nitrate is most suitable for crops such as sugar beet, potato, barley, hemp, etc. It is widely used in various soils, especially acidic soils lacking calcium, and the effect is better.

Calcium nitrate has the characteristics of rapid calcium and nitrogen replenishment. Its unique combination of nitrate nitrogen and 100% water-soluble calcium provides many characteristics and advantages that other fertilizers do not have. 

It is one of the most valuable fertilizers on the market. Each grain of calcium nitrate evenly contains 11.8% of nitrogen (nitrate) and 23.7% of water-soluble calcium, which is conducive to the absorption of nutrients by crops, enhances the resistance of fruits and vegetables, promotes early maturity, and improves the quality of fruits and vegetables. It is widely used in base application, top dressing, washing and foliar spraying, and can also be used as a nutrient solution for soilless culture. Rich in calcium ions, continuous application will not deteriorate the physical properties of the soil and can also improve the soil.


Advantages of calcium nitrate

Good safety performance, easy to store and transport. Ammoniated calcium nitrate and agricultural calcium nitrate, as substitutes for ammonium nitrate, are nitrate nitrogen fertilizers that are safer than ammonium nitrate. Due to the presence of calcium, the moisture absorption of agricultural calcium nitrate is lower than that of ordinary ammonium nitrate, which improves the agglomeration and thermal stability, and is less prone to fire and explosion hazards during storage and handling.

It is mainly based on nitrate nitrogen, plus calcium, which is indispensable for crops. Agricultural calcium nitrate is a new type of high-efficiency fertilizer containing nitrogen and quick-acting calcium. Calcium nitrate for agriculture contains a large amount of nitrate nitrogen. Compared with ammonium nitrogen and amide nitrogen, it can be directly absorbed and utilized by plants without conversion. Calcium is one of the essential nutrient elements for the growth and development of crops, and it plays an important role in the growth of crops. According to the analysis of relevant experts, the calcium demand of many crops is second only to nitrogen and potassium, but higher than phosphorus.

The volatilization loss is small and the utilization rate is high. According to relevant domestic and foreign data, the nitrogen loss of urea and ammonium bicarbonate during storage and use is between 40% and 50%. The environmental pollution caused by nitrogen loss every year in our country is also quite serious. Therefore, improving the utilization rate of chemical fertilizers and protecting the environment have become one of the most important issues in my country's agricultural development. The nitrate nitrogen contained in agricultural calcium nitrate can be directly absorbed by crops, without soil modification, low volatilization loss, quick effect of base fertilizer and topdressing, and can quickly add nitrogen fertilizer to crops.

Uses of calcium nitrate

Suitable for top dressing in dry land. However, it should be noted that the nutrients of calcium nitrate fertilizer are easy to lose, so it must be applied in small amounts and applied in batches. Generally, do not apply before rain.

When used as a base fertilizer, it can be used in conjunction with decomposed organic fertilizers, phosphate fertilizers (superphosphate), and potash fertilizers, which can significantly improve fertilizer efficiency. But it cannot be mixed with superphosphate alone, so as not to reduce the fertilizer efficiency of phosphate fertilizer.

Since calcium nitrate has a lower nitrogen content, it is used more than other nitrogen fertilizers.

Industrial application

1. It is a raw material for the manufacture of other nitrates. It is used as a cathode coating in the electronics industry, as a quick-acting fertilizer for acid soil and a quick calcium supplement for plants in agriculture.                                                                                                                                                      

2. Used as analytical reagent and raw material for fireworks.      


3. It is the raw material for making other nitrates.

4. Used as a flocculant in latex, oil exploration wells, sewage treatment, etc.

5. In agriculture, it can be used for soilless cultivation, acid soil quick-acting fertilizer, and plant quick-acting calcium supplementation.

6. In light industry, it is used to make pyrotechnics and incandescent lampshades, as analytical reagents and pyrotechnic materials.

7. Used in the manufacture of explosives in the national defense industry.

8. Used in the electronic instrument industry to coat the cathode. It is the raw material for making other nitrates.
