Brazil's Soybean Exports Up 15% in First Quarter

Brazilian newspaper "Valores Económicos", April 6, according to the estimates of the National Association of Grain Exporters (Anec), Brazil exported 23.56 million tons of soybeans in the first quarter of this year, a volume 15% higher than the same period in 2021. This is despite an 18% drop in exports in March, when exports stood at 12.17 million tons. Last March, exports reached 14.9 million tons. Anec expects soybean shipments to be 11.1 million tons in April, 30% lower than the same period in 2021 (or the equivalent of 4.56 million tons less). 

 

According to Anec, soybean oil exports totaled 1.37 million tons in March and 4.5 million tons in the first quarter, up 8 percent and 43.3 percent, respectively. the forecast for April is for a 20 percent increase to 1.9 million tons. corn exports were 107,200 tons in March, down 7 percent from a year earlier. Anec estimates April shipments at 60,000 tons, up 172% y/y. Wheat exports totaled 508,100 tons in March, with no exports in March 2021. In the first quarter, wheat exports were 2.13 million tons, almost four times as much as in the same period last year. Wheat exports are expected to be 112,100 tons in April.
