Properties:

Ammonium Sulfate In Food, referred to as ammonium sulfate, soluble in water, aqueous solution for acid.

Applications:

The main use of ammonium sulfate is as a fertilizer for alkaline soils. Ammonium Ions are released in the soil and form a small amount of acid, which decreases the PH balance of the soil and at the same time contributes the necessary nitrogen for plant growth. The main disadvantage of using ammonium sulfate is its low nitrogen content relative to ammonium nitrate, which increases transportation costs. It is also used as an agricultural spray additive for water-soluble pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. There, it acts as a binding agent for iron and calcium cations found in well water and plant cells. As adjuvants for 2,4-D (Amines) , glyphosate and glufosinate herbicides are particularly effective. In acid soil, ammonium sulfate should be applied together with other basic fertilizers such as calcium magnesium phosphate and lime in order to avoid the increase of soil acidity.
