Ammonium Sulfate Fertilizer is obtained by ammonium hydroxide and sulfuric acid neutralization, crystallization, centrifugation, and drying. The product of ammonium sulfate is prepared by the neutralization reaction of ammonia and sulfuric acid at about 100 °C, and the resultant ammonium sulfate crystal slurry is centrifugally separated and dried. The recovery method of 2NH3 + H2SO4→(NH4)2SO4 is obtained by recovering ammonia from coke oven gas and neutralizing reaction with sulfuric acid.

Applications:

Food grade ammonium sulfate, which has many biological uses, is mainly used in the purification of protein, because ammonium sulfate is an inert substance and is not easy to react with other biologically active substances, and it can protect the activity of protein in the purification process, the solubility of ammonium sulfate is good, can form high salt environment, for protein precipitation and subsequent high salt purification to prepare.

The precipitation mechanism of ammonium sulfate is that the solubility of protein in solution is related to the concentration of salt. At low salt concentrations, increasing salt concentration increases protein solubility because salt ions pair with positive and negative charges on the surface of the protein, reducing the chance of protein surface interaction. When the salt concentration is high enough, the excess salt competes with the hydrophobic surface of the protein for water molecules, so that the hydrophobic surface of the protein tends to interact to form a polymer deposit. The best concentration to precipitate the target protein is purely empirical, and the experiment may not be repeated each time, because the ability to precipitate the protein is related to their own concentration solution.

Operational Considerations

Hermetic operation, local ventilation. Operators must be specially trained and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-suction filter type dust mask, wear chemical safety goggles, wear anti-poison infiltration work clothes, wear rubber gloves. Avoid Dust Generation. Avoid contact with acids and bases. Handling should be light loading and unloading to prevent packaging and container damage. Equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may be contaminated.

Storage and transportation

Store in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse. Away from fire and heat. Should be stored separately with acid, Alkali, do not mix storage. The storage area shall be provided with suitable materials to contain the leakage.
